Approaching LaGuardia, Queens, NY from Indianapolis - a Flight to Remember

We made it in safely after very long flight. Our American Eagle flight kept put on "hold" because of turbulence and bad weather around LaGuardia. Initially, there was a 50-minute delay out of Indianapolis on Thursday, September 23, 2021. Then, we were within 30 minute approach into LaGuardia when the "hold" pattern started. The pilot said he had lots of fuel so we were up there for a tad too long. He kept us updated frequently. So a flight that was to take off at 1:03 p.m. from Indy and land at LaGuardia at 3:05 p.m. did not land until 6:30 p.m. The skies were cloudy and milky. We experienced some deep pockets of air as well. Throughout the flight, we were not allowed to unbuckle our seatbelts. Only unbuckled if it was a truly emergent restroom break. We could not stand nor walk, etc. So when were were eventually cleard to land, we were all estatic despite a rough landing. And, we did not have to divert to Philidelphia. My niece was waiting for me at baggage claims. We took an Uber, driving in very heavy rain (only after having waited in line for an hour) to Avalon River Front Apartments in Long Island City, NY The following days were gorgeous (beautiful and sunny) -- we took the ferry across the East River to lower Manhattan and then walked up to Park Avenue. I got 10,000 steps on the very first day!! I met a few of my niece's lovely friends. Each day, it was breakfast, lunch and dinner (out at different eateries and restaurants). These included Japanes, Korean, Indian and Nepalese. We spent an afternoon in a Mexican Cantina as well. Uber rides to Flushings, NY and Uber to Jackson Heights, NY were very interesting. Where can you see so much diversity and heavy traffic> wow -- what a wonferful trip!! I will post some pictures shortly!! Everybody can enjoy NYC (at least once in their lifetime)

Looking to fly out soon - cheaply?

I have now decompressed from my long visit to New York City. Now, I'm already ruminating - where next? My younger sister who lives in the U K has already booked her flight to Sydney for May 8, 2020. We are planning to visit my older son, his wife and my grandchildren. I am still browsing for a decent fare.

This is a good site, I am looking into:

Fall is fast Approaching in NewYorKCity

I got back to Indianapolis about a week ago and just realized that Fall is fast approaching in the mid west.

It was a full three weeks in New York but I lived in Long Island City, NY. I would either hop on the ferry and cross the East River and walk up on 34th Street on to Times Square and different places or catch a train.

Grand Central Station was quite an experience. I changed platforms many times, missed stops way too many times but I enjoyed traveling to Woodside, NY and Jackson Heights. This time, I did not go back to China Town.

Well, to remind you and myself, I am looking at this to save my skin:

I did step on the wrong ferry and was on my way to Wall Street. I have been there before but this time, I had other sights in mind.

Shake Shack - Herald Square

Now I been to this locale only once, however, I remember waiting in line for a very, very long time but I've enjoyed what I ordered for lunch!! What I'm talking about is an eatery, "Shake Shack." Funny, I first heard about it in Sydney, Australia. My grand-kids told me about it so when I visited New York City in Sept/Oct of 2018, I had to check it out. The hamburger was delicious and the french fries were out of this world. I'm so excited, I will get to visit again and stand in line once again for these edible delights!! New York City, here I come, end of July.

New York City - Here I Come Again

Very soon, I will be making my annual trip to New York City on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 until Thursday, August 22, 2019 - I know the weather is going to be extremely hot but it's going to be a lot of fun. I am actually hoping, I will be able to video a few areas that I like and have visited during my past visits. Of course, I am definitely looking forward to having breakfast at "Bread and Butter" at 303 Fifth Avenue. Menu items are too numerous to list but this will be a specialty: Avocado, plum tomatoes and arugula with chipotle aioli spread in a roasted plain wrap. "Bread and Butter" is quite close to www.beautyhealthny.com which is on 37th E 28th Street, Suite 800, New York, NY 10016

This time of the year, lots of great flight deals are available on different airlines via many travel agents.

The High Line Linear Park

Tourism in New York City is at its peak in July - children are off from school. Travelers come from all over the world to enjoy the sights of New York City. A highlight not to miss while on this trip is definitely to experience the wonder of "The High Line" linear park. This of course means, a good skin care routine as the sun and heat can damage the skin. I have walked in the park on each of my trips to New York City. It is very interesting because of public diversity and vibrant atmosphere.

Missing Long Island City, NY

Last September-October, I awoke on a Saturday morning to bright sunshine reflecting on the East River. I'm feeling nostalgic for that moment.

Out of many evenings out, one night does stand out. The Empire State Building against an ethereal blue/black sky.

We went to the BLVD Wine Bar and had a fantastic dinner. It is located at 4720 Center Blvd, Long Island City, NY 11109

Happy Birthday America!

o wow!! Today is America's 243rd Birthday!! I had the privilege to land in San Francisco on my 31st Birthday in January 1976 - a proud green card holder. What a ride it's been. Numerous ups and downs but I am so thankful to be able to live here and enjoy so much of the freedom offered to me.

Brasserie Les Halles - New York City, NY

I am remembering NYC's Brasserie Les Halles when friends of my niece joined us for dinner on Park Avenue South (a few years ago). The atmosphere was sophisticated and our company was charming. I was enthralled with the menu as well and service. Unfortunately, I switched phones and I've lost some of the pictures. As soon as I find them, I will definitely post them.

June in New York City

When I was in New York City in late September 2018, the weather was wonderful.

Actually, I was visiting my niece in Long Island City. I would take the ferry across the East River and walk up to Fifth Avenue.

NYC is very diverse and so is fashion. You have the freedom to dress whatever you want. I loved to watch people dress up or dress down along Lexington Avenue. I even walked down to China Town which was a real treat for me.

I am looking at the Belle Lily web site right now.

2019

My thoughts and prayers are for the people of New Zealand. I am especially sad as both my grandchildren were born in Auckland. Christchurch is home to a high school friend of mine with whom I grew up in Shillong, Meghalaya, India. I am sentimental and wear a kiwi charm that dangles from a black string around my neck that my older son and his family sent me from Auckland. Air New Zealand is one of my favorite airlines as well.

Happy New Year 2019

It's been a few years since we celebrated New Year's Eve on Time Square in New York City. Each time, in the past, we got lucky and enjoyed incredibly warm temperatures. This time I believe it was cold and rainy. I wanted to watch the countdown but I fell asleep and awoke at 1:10 a.m., so I was incredibly disappointed. If you're looking for a great and easy guide to experience New York City, you can obtain Frommer's "Easy Guide to New York City 2018." It contains all the information you will need to make your visit enjoyable. This book is easy to follow and is full of all the tips with regards to hotel accommodations, transportation, restaurants, sight seeing tours, etc. Those of you who are brave to conquer the cold, you may like NYC, this time of the year. As you may know, it's extremely easy to maneuver as you can catch trains, cabs, and for some of you, you can walk!!

Late post: Tuesday 10/16/18 Uber picked me up; courtesy of my niece; then on to Long Island City and dropped off my luggage. I was to spend a week with her. We headed on to Fifth Avenue to check my skin at her office. It had been over two years since I was back in NY City. I was looking forward to attending the New Jersey (Miss India/New Jersey beauty pageant on 10/30/18); We drove via Uber to the pageant in Edison, NJ. It was a very exciting and entertaining event as my niece was a judge at the pageant. Cocktails was followed by dinner. I met very interesting people to include (when you read this post, you know who you are)!! Will post some pictures later.

Wishing everybody a Happy New Year - a tad late!!

At last, I am able find time to write a little post about my wonderful trip to Hurtsville Grove, NSW, Australia. I arrived at Kingsford Smith International Airport in Sydney on a Wednesday, January 24, 2018 (I had just turned age 73) during flight!! My flight was long but I was able to relax quite a bit!! My grand kids ages (17 and 12) received me at the airport!! Once again, I was very lucky to be able to enjoy my visit my son, his wife, and kids. We did some sightseeing of which I will post some photos soon.

Queens

Many years ago, my actual stay was in Queens in 2004 and 2006. Queens is a significantly large area of multicultural diversity. It's a residence for immigrants that's very vibrant despite the havoc caused by Hurricane Sandy of October 29, 2012. My revisit in 2015 surprised me; Queens and areas affected by the storm had rebuilt to attract tourists from around the world. My last trip in the Summer of 2016 was across the East Rive to Long Island City. I took a walk, popping in to look into east Indian stores. As always, I'm always in need of small towels to wipe off dust and grime from skin when I get too hot and sweaty.

I am missing Fifth Avenue, NYC; I'm imagining the Empire State Building looking down on me!! I walked many miles around this area each time I visited. Tenth Avenue Square

As you know, the urban High Line Park is an amazing transformation of the old railway tracks. I loved to take that long walk on The High Line. Many different planking building materials went into transforming concrete areas. And while I observed and enjoyed the beauty of the park, I would frequently apply lipstick to keep my lips moist:

It's been a year since I visited my niece in Long Island City, NY. I loved this place along the bank of the East River.
